EMERGENCY EARTHQUAKE APPEAL HERAT AFGHANISTAN

A powerful earthquake has killed more than 2400 people, 9240 injured, destroying thousand of houses with thousands of people buried under the rubble in Northwest Herat, Afghanistan.

Heavy losses occurred in 20 villages in Herat province, the death toll is likely to rise.

The 6.3-magnitude quake hit the west of the country, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicentre was about 25 miles northwest of the city of Herat.

It was followed by three strong aftershocks, measuring 6.3, 5.9, and 5.5, the USGS reported.

Last year an earthquake struck about 44km (27 miles) from south-eastern city of Khost on 22nd June 2022, killing over a thousand people and injuring over 3000 people.
