LIBYA FLOODS EMERGENCY APPEAL 2023

According to the Red Crescent, about 11,300 people are now known to have died in the devastating flooding that has hit Eastern Libya following Storm Daniel, and that number is likely to double or even quadruple, and over 10,100 are missing, a tally that could be higher in Derna. Derna’s mayor has warned that 20,000 people may have lost their lives in north east Libya after Storm Daniel triggered devastating floods on the evening of 10th September.

Eastern Libya’s cities of Soussa, Al Bayda, Um Razaz, Al Marj and Benghazi were also affected.

Two large dams collapsed above the city of Derna, the resulting floods engulfing everything in their path, destroying 5 bridges, splitting the city into two and destroying over 25% of Derna, leaving over 30,000 people homeless and in need of assistance.
